If you’re taking a whole year out then you should be able to work all summer, ready to start your gap year in September. If you’re thinking of travelling, and depending on when you are looking to embark on your trip, you might be able to work for longer and earn those pennies! For those with a smaller window for your travels, you might have to dig into your savings, or the bank of mum and dad may be on hand to assist you (don’t forget to pay them back!).
No matter how long you’ve got to save, do anything and everything including babysitting, working in a supermarket or getting your hands dirty as a labourer on a farm. It is ALL great experience and proof for future employers that you’re not afraid of getting stuck in and you are prepared to fund your own gap year.
